LCD Projectors And Other Accessories

May 8th, 2009
Projector played an important role in at work or home.  At work, a good projector can be the key difference in whether a presentation was successful or otherwise.  Likewise, at home, it gives you greater visual satisfaction and viewer experience when watching your favorite movie.

An electronic device that is used to satisfy our visual senses since a picture tells a hundred words.  It has evolved from a general graph It displays an image, movie or multimedia presentation on a projection screen or similar surface for the view of an audience.

A home projection entertainment system improves the viewer’s experience significantly.  It can instantly turn your living room into a large TV screen.  A projector coupled with an audio system and good lighting control can turn a living room into a personal theater.   The viewers have the same experience as in the cinema minus the large crowds, restricted viewing times, or errant viewers who intentionally disobey the “muted cell phone” rule.

These are one of the quite popular electronic devices and have various uses. There are many companies that manufacture some of the best selling models. They provide these for different application needs. Among the more popular projectors are video projectors which are further classified under the technology that each of them incorporates such as LCD projector, CRT projector, DLP projector, LCOS projector, etc.  Another type of projectors are known as transparency projectors which are then further classified as Movie projector, Slide projector, Overhead projector, Magic Lantern, and Enlarger.

With the advancement of sophisticated technology and the in-depth R&D, the display qualities improves tremendously at a rapid rate.  The advanced manufacturing technologies have also increase reliability as well as reduces the cost.  In addition, new features are included as basic needs for any projectors in the market.

Technology has enabled manufacturers to squeeze more features into less space.  Thus, it is quite common to find projectors in the market which are light in weight and small in size.  The small size projectors takes less storage place and looks more attractive.  Imagine having a chunky machine in your meeting room or living room which likely become an eye-sore.  The light weight projector make it very portable and easy to carry with you for your out of state meetings.

One of the most important characteristics that determine a good projector is brightness.  Brightness in projector industry is measured in ANSI lumens.  For instance, ultra-portable projectors come with as low as 350 lumens that best suited for “lights off” presentations.  And it can go all the way up to 2500 lumens.  Projectors that are used in a situation where exist some ambient lighting will have at minimum of 800 lumens.

Most projectors can support different resolution that influence the image quality too.  Generally, image quality is better when the resolution is less high.  This allows for the image to appear bigger which makes it easier for viewers at the back of  a large room.

There are many projectors in the market that have different features, quality and of course price too.  Price should not be your only determining factor.  When you purchase a projector, it is important to understand your needs and do some comparison on the projectors specifications.  This way you will be sure to find one that fits your living room (or office) as well as your bank account.

There are mainly two kinds of projectors, video projectors and transparency projectors. Under the video projectors, there are four kinds. These are the LCD projector, CRT projector, DLP projector and LCOS projector. As for the transparency projector, it has the movie projector, slide projector, and overhead projector.

An LCD projector is also known as a liquid crystal display. It uses a metal halide lamp in order to send light through the LCD panels so as to display images. It is the modern slide projector and overhead projector of today.

CRT projectors are popularly known as video projectors. It utilizes high-brightness picture tubes or CRT so as to create an image. The created image is then enlarged and focused with the use of a lens. This lens is placed behind the face of the CRT.

A DLP or digital light processing device uses a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD). It is a small memory chip which adjusts the electromagnetic mirrors for every pixel in the image. It is also good to use even in rooms that are lit.

LCOS stands for liquid crystal on silicon. It is known as a micro-projection technology device which is used for televisions. Like DLP, it makes use of reflective technology but has liquid crystals instead.

Under the transparency projector, the movie projector uses films on a reel to form moving pictures. A slide projector also enlarges photographic slides on the screen. The overhead projector also enlarges images of pictorial or written material on a transparency that is placed underneath the projector.

A Home Theatre Projector

May 7th, 2009
C R Ellsworth asked:

The Home Theatre Projector has some handy features compared to the older technology of Giant Screen Plasma or rear projection systems. Cost alone is worth considering. A ‘Big Screen’, whether Plasma, LCD or Rear Projection can easily cost thousands of dollars, the larger, the higher cost. Even at 6 or 7 thousand dollars you may be restricted to 70 inch diagonal width.

A Home Theatre Projector System which projects images up to 120 inches is affordable at starting prices under $1500.

New generation of projectors are compact and light. New projector technologies such as LCD projectors or DLP projectors which utilize compact digital image chips which have brighter light output than CRT technologies. Now there’s no need to completely see your movie in total darkness. A dimly lit room will do just as fine.

Remember having to arrange a party at your house for ‘The Big Game’ if you owned a ‘Big Screen’. Now with a Projector, there’s no need to rush somewhere, or the same spot every week, you can move the party around sort of sharing the load. Think of having the ‘Super Bowl Party’ or other event at a venue that can be picked by the size of the group invited instead of the location of the ‘Big Screen’. You could even move to rented space if you expected a large enough showing.

Now imagine the same scenario with an online presentation, or Power Point Presentation. See, this is starting to show some possibilities.

You can setup on a table. It’s also light enough that it could be ceiling mounted without extra bracing as long as you mount to an upper floor joist or rafter.

Don’t tell anyone I said this, but this is also a possibility when you go on vacation, although if camping some may feel the ‘Big Screen’ is inappropriate. I know someone that might shoot me if I suggested camping with any form of TV.

A wide range of connectivity options is available. Imagine your PC display that large. Games become more engrossing or you can run your digital photos as the ultimate slide show.

For Display output you can use an actual projection screen or just a clean wall.

If you think about your normal existing Entertainment System, most of the hardware is in the front of the viewer. To have some of your equipment in a different location required cabling. Some surround installations run cables under the floor or carpet for speakers. You would think that possibly a projector would require something similar.

Nowadays though we have all in one home theatre with speakers and DVD player thrown in together in one unit. There are also wireless options, wireless projectors and wireless speaker systems. A wireless setup actually allows you to have most of the hardware in a completely different room from the ‘Viewing Enclosure’.

Some have even gone to the point of building an acoustically designed, sound proof viewing room with theatre seating and the whole deal. Modern Hardware allows for the ‘Theatre Experience’ without the noise and sticky floors. All of this depends on your budget of course. My budget stops short of the acoustically perfect viewing room. You are allowed to make your own choices.
